The AI industry is experiencing rapid growth, and with that comes new players entering the market. One of the latest entrants is DeepSeek, a Chinese AI chatbot that has quickly gained attention worldwide. While many are impressed by its advanced capabilities, there are deeper concerns about the principles behind this technology.

At Community AI Innovators, we stand for freedom of speech, democracy, and human rights. With this in mind, we have made the decision not to promote or endorse DeepSeek. Here’s why.

The Rise of DeepSeek and Its Concerns

DeepSeek has taken the AI world by storm, quickly becoming one of the most downloaded AI chatbots. However, beneath the surface of its technological advancements lies a stark reality—it is built under the strict oversight of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). This means that DeepSeek’s responses and outputs are inherently influenced by government-imposed censorship, preventing open discussion on critical topics such as human rights, political dissent, and democracy.

Censorship and Controlled Narratives

Reports indicate that DeepSeek is programmed to align with China’s state-approved messaging. For example, discussions around Tiananmen Square, Taiwan’s independence, or criticisms of the CCP are either ignored, redirected, or censored. The AI’s inability to provide unbiased information severely restricts its potential as a true tool for knowledge-sharing and free thought.

According to The Australian, the chatbot has been found to be highly selective in what it addresses, openly discussing human rights issues in countries like Australia but avoiding or shutting down conversations about China’s own human rights record.

China’s Cyberspace Administration enforces strict regulations on AI content, requiring that all models uphold "Core Socialist Values." This directly contradicts the principles of free thought and open dialogue that we at Community AI Innovators believe AI should encourage.

Why We Will Not Promote DeepSeek

At Community AI Innovators, we firmly believe in AI that serves as a tool for empowerment, education, and free expression.

We reject AI tools that promote government-controlled narratives and restrict access to truthful, unbiased information. While DeepSeek may be an impressive piece of technology, it does not align with our commitment to ethical AI, democracy, and human rights.

Therefore, we will not promote or support DeepSeek in any capacity and urge our community to be cautious when using AI systems developed under restrictive and authoritarian oversight.

Final Thoughts

The future of AI should be open, fair, and free from political manipulation. At Community AI Innovators, we will continue to advocate for AI models that respect freedom of speech, democratic values, and human rights.

We encourage our community to stay informed, critically evaluate AI technologies, and support ethical innovations that serve humanity’s best interests.
